About Capt. Mark Krowka
Author: Charlie Johnson
Capt. Mark Krowka
Who better than legendary Captain Mark Krowka to assume the helm of Tournament Tails, a chronicle of all things associated with skinny water tournament angling in the salt? Mark has stood atop the pantheon of Florida Keys guides for over 26 years, winning an astonishing 44 (that’s no typo) tournaments and taking home more than 140 (again no typo) various angler and guide awards. With all these trophies, it’s a wonder how Mark is able to move around in his Islamorada home.
Aside from his tournament accolades, 10 personal I.G.F.A. world records and 436 grand slams (and counting), Mark is known for his intimate knowledge of the fish that inhabit the shallows ranging from Palm Beach to the Marquesas Keys, 26 miles west of Key West. Because of this and his strong writing skills, he has been asked to contribute to numerous publications, writing for as many as 9 publications simultaneously, and has co-authored a book.
Ask anyone who has fished with Mark to describe the experience and they’ll talk of qualities that border on superhuman – eyes like an osprey’s, an animal-like sensitivity to changing environmental conditions and an omniscient sense of his surroundings. Stories abound of Mark’s correctly predicting to the minute when and where a school of bonefish will arrive on a flat, how many fish will be in the school and where the biggest fish will be in the formation.
Despite all the lofty characterizations and tournament hardware, Mark, above all else, is down to earth and a pleasure to spend a day on the water with. An integral part of the Maverick Boat Company family for now over a quarter of a century, Mark brings to Tournament Tails unsurpassed fishing knowledge, writing expertise and a passion for sharing his love for the sport of shallow water angling. We are grateful and honored to have him as our latest contributor.
